MIRI – The Sarawak Public Communications Unit has warned of possible floods as river levels continue to rise in northern Sarawak.
It said villagers living along Sg Baram had shared photographs of its tributaries’ rising water levels.
“The villagers living in the interior, especially those in riverine settlements, are sharing pictures showing rising water levels.
“In some areas, the riverbanks have burst, inundating surrounding areas. The residents have to be ready to face another round of floods if the weather deteriorates further.”
On Tuesday, a social activist slammed the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government leaders for “doing absolutely nothing” to mitigate the flood woes that have again hit Ulu Baram.
Willie Kajan said GPS must answer to the rakyat as they continue to suffer from the floods.
