KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 568 individuals were arrested yesterday for defying government standard operating procedures, including unapproved interstate and interdistrict travel.
According to Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, 43 individuals were nabbed by the police for unapproved travel yesterday.
160 more were arrested for failing to practice physical distancing, 131 for taking part in activities in entertainment centres, 116 for not wearing masks, 56 for failure to provide entry logs and equipment at premises, and 62 for other offences.
“Of the 568 arrested, 516 have been issued compounds, 49 are detained, and three are out on bail,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri said the arrests were made as part of the special task force compliance operation led by the police yesterday, involving 11,875 personnel from 2,741 enforcement teams.
Separately, he said 42 undocumented migrants were also detained yesterday under Ops Benteng, a joint operation involving several enforcement agencies to safeguard the country’s borders.
“The government will take stern action against any one who tries to enter our borders illegally, and our enforcement agencies will continue to tighten security at these borders,” he said. – The Vibes, November 15, 2020
