KUALA LUMPUR – A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged child abuse case involving a 3-year-old boy in Pandan Perdana, Ampang.

Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the suspect, who works part-time as a contractor at Jalan Besar Taman Dagang, was nabbed earlier this evening.

“Investigations revealed the suspect is a friend of the boy’s father, and was asked to take care of the victim while his biological parents serve their prison sentences,” Farouk said in a statement today.

He said checks revealed the suspect has three drug-related records to his name, and another for a commercial crime offence.

Farouk said the suspect will be brought to the Ampang magistrates’ court tomorrow morning to apply for a remand order against him.

This was after police were alerted to the alleged abuse by a man who lodged a report, after noticing injuries on the child’s face and body when he went to investigate the toddler’s cries coming from inside the house in Ampang.

Farouk had said the victim, who was later said to be in stable condition, was placed in the Ampang Hospital paediatric ward for further observation and treatment.

He said investigations found that the suspect has been the toddler’s temporary guardian since last January, as the boy’s parents were serving prison sentences for drug-related offences. – The Vibes, May 16, 2022
