KUALA LUMPUR – Former Telok Mas assemblyman Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad, who was one of the four who triggered the Melaka state elections last year, has made official his Amanah membership.

In a Facebook post two days ago, he shared a photo of him submitting his membership application to Amanah vice-president and former Melaka chief minister Adly Zahari.

“This is the new platform for my political journey. To some extent, my past experiences, good or bad, will help benefit our beloved country. I will strengthen my inner self and my weaknesses will be a valuable guide.

“To the Amanah family, I realise that I am new and have many shortcomings. I will be asking for guidance and cooperation.”

Adly also welcomed Noor Effandi to Amanah with words of encouragement.

“May we continue to strive for a better future for the country. Don’t give up.”

Last Thursday, Noor Effandi was seen at Adly’s launch of a book that chronicles his time as chief minister. Noor Effandi was also invited on stage to speak about his time in Bersatu as the party had been part of Pakatan Harapan (PH) before it exited the coalition.

“I was one of the 15 reps after the 2018 general election who supported Adly as chief minister. It is a regret that later I was also among the Bersatu reps who ended his term when the party left PH.

Melaka Governor Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam dissolved the state assembly last October 4 after the four assemblymen – Noor Effandi, Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sg Udang assemblyman), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor) and Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) – withdrew their support for Umno’s Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

A report by the MalaysiaGazette last October said that former Umno duo Idris and Nor Azman, as well as independent Norhizam and Noor Effandi, were to join PH and contest in the state elections.

However, Noor Effandi did not contest while Norhizam ran as an independent, and PKR fielded Idris and Nor Azman. – The Vibes, May 19, 2022
