KUALA LUMPUR – A close family friend of Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has filed a report with the Malaysian Multimedia and Communications Commission (MCMC) urging them to investigate the authenticity of a viral photo that showed a woman clutching Najib’s arms during an apparent celebration.

The individual, who chose to remain anonymous, is said to have lodged the report at MCMC’s Cyberjaya branch yesterday evening.

According to a report by Utusan Malaysia, the family friend’s report to MCMC seeks for them to investigate the source of the picture, and for action to be taken if evidence can prove the photo and its captions were doctored.

“I showed the picture with the captions to Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and both were surprised as it was not genuine, before they asked for my help to lodge a report with MCMC for further action to be taken.

“I made this report on behalf of Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and, as they have requested, they are seeking for an investigation to be carried out if it can be established that the picture and captions are not authentic.

“I also appealed (to MCMC) for legal action to be taken against the culprits behind the picture,” the person was quoted saying in the report.

The picture in question has received overwhelming attention from both social media users and politicians, with Bersatu’s Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal cheekily congratulating Najib on becoming a “newlywed”.

The picture shows Najib standing in the centre, with his left arm being clutched by a woman some claim is composer Fauzi Marzuki’s ex-wife Hashimah Ramli, and three others said to be Hashimah’s children.

Marzuki, when contacted, refused to comment on the supposed matrimony of his former wife, saying he had nothing to do with their apparent union. – The Vibes, May 22, 2022
