THE corruption trial of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's was postponed again, to September 17, as the accused remains hospitalised.

Najib is on trial for misappropriating billions of ringgit from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

The Kuala Lumpur High Court was told today that Najib was still in Kuala Lumpur Hospital because of pain in his right knee and sleep apnoea.

The trial was vacated two days ago and again yesterday because of his hospitalisation.

Dr Siti Hawa Tahir from the hospital's orthopaedic and traumatology department provided Najib's medical information to judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah. She said Najib must remain under observation becuase he was prescribed opioids two days ago.

The doctor said acute inflammation must be assessed daily.

"The opioids cause side effects, including drowsiness and nausea. He needs two days of rest," she told the court.

"A psychiatrist can better assess his mental condition before he comes to court, as the drugs will take several hours to clear from his bloodstream," she said.

Najib, 71, faces 25 counts of money laundering and abuse of power over in connection to 1MDB money amounting to RM2.28 billion. The sum was deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014. – September 12, 2024.
