DATUK Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid today said the earnestness of Datuk Seri Najib Razak brought the country to excellence with various transformations for the welfare of the people and all Umno members.

Debating on the presidential policy speech during the 2024 Umno General Assembly, she said at every division meeting she officiated, Wanita Umno representatives continued to push for motions for the former prime minister to be given justice.

“I support the motion by Wanita for Umno’s top leadership to continue upholding justice for Najib and never give up on a leader who has been with us in good times and in bad times,” she said.

On another note, the daughter of Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party belonged to all Malays, including those who have not yet joined Umno.

“Umno is not owned by any individual, it is not owned by my father or anyone’s father.

“The party belongs to all of us. It belongs to the delegates, to our children, grandchildren, and all Malays, including those who have yet to join the party,” she said.

The Wanita Umno exco member also said that a candidate from the wing should be preferred in the upcoming Mahkota by-election.

“Wanita Umno requests and appeals to the party president, who is also Barisan Nasional coalition chairman, to consider putting a woman candidate for the Mahkota state seat.

“This is because the Mahkota state seat is traditionally held by a woman,” she said.

On the power-sharing arrangements following the establishment of the unity government, Nurulhidayah said Umno must navigate these arrangements wisely to strengthen the party both internally and externally.

“As a country that practises democracy, we have adhered to the principle of sharing power with our partners from various ethnic groups for decades.

“Fate has now brought us to a phase where we must share power with those who were once our enemies,” she added. – August 24, 2024
