KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) must revolutionise its image and approach to the masses ahead of the general election (GE15) or risk being left behind, said the coalition’s deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
In his opening address at the BN’s national convention today, Mohamad, better known as Tok Mat, cautioned members to not rely on nostalgia or previous track record as means to woo voters.
“In facing the coming general election, BN must come forward with a revolutionary image, one that is ‘cool but serious and promising’. One that can produce a sense of trust among the people and prove that BN is a ‘revolutionary idea’.”
However, taking a swipe at rival Pakatan Harapan (PH), Tok Mat said BN now must position itself to retake the federal administration and restore political stability.
“Look at what happened to this country when PH defeated BN in 2018. PH failed to govern and failed miserably. From all metrics, we are in decline and going backwards and now that we are the government, our hands are tied.
“This is because we are not the dominant force. We are bound by many constraints and understanding with so many allies and associates. When we want to act aggressively or differently, we are threatened and pressured.”
He added that political instability has set Malaysia back by 20 years and BN must return as the government for the sake of future generations. – The Vibes, June 1, 2022
