PRN Negeri Sembilan: Four seats in focus, battle expected to be tougher than Johor
The Rantau state seat is expected to be the most significant frontline for BN - July 18, 2026

FOUR seats are expected to be among the focus in the Negeri Sembilan state election as senior party leaders at the state and national levels were nominated as candidates.

They are the Rantau, Linggi, Chennah and Pertang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, moved from his stronghold in Sikamat to contest in Linggi and is tipped to be a test of just how much influence he has in the state.

Chennah is also in the spotlight where DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke is contesting, while Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias are defending the Rantau and Pertang seats respectively.

Insiders believe the performance of these four seats has the potential to be an important indicator of the level of voter acceptance of their respective party leadership as well as the political direction of Negeri Sembilan.

The Rantau state seat is expected to be the most significant frontline for BN as it is a traditional stronghold of Mohamad and a symbol of UMNO’s strength in Negeri Sembilan.

Some insiders, meanwhile, feel the differences in the form of political cooperation between the Federal and state levels have the potential to cause confusion among voters, especially when parties that cooperate at one level are seen to compete at another level.

They claim that voters may be wondering why Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) are still working together in the Unity Government at the Federal level, but are competitors at the state level.

Voters may be confused because at the Federal level, PH and BN are still working together, but when it comes to the state level, they suddenly fight each other.

They also believe the situation in Negeri Sembilan is more challenging than Johor, and the state is expected to witness a more intense election competition.

This situation may be one of the factors that is pushing political parties to look for different formulas to face the political challenges in the state.

Overall, they say that the current political landscape shows that voter decisions are influenced by various factors and cannot be assessed based on just one narrative. – July 18, 2026
