KUALA LUMPUR – Allegations that DAP is continuously ruled by the so-called “Lim Dynasty” is just a perception played by political rivals to tarnish the party.
In an exclusive with The Vibes’ sister portal Getaran, DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng cynically said he would remain as secretary-general if there was truly a monopoly of power in the party.
Lim admitted that the matter could be easily executed if amendments were made to the party constitution.
“When there is a change for instance a new secretary-general, why does this issue arise again when other parties have not changed? Why not raise the question to them?
I think the game they are playing is called ‘it’s all DAP’s fault’, that’s what we call it.
On March 20, Anthony Loke was appointed as the new DAP secretary-general for the 2022-2025 term, replacing Lim who held the post for 17 years.
Lim was then appointed as the new party chairman to replace Cheras MP, Tan Kok Wai.
Elaborating on the matter, Lim who is the Bagan MP said his appointment was a decision made by party members and he will continue to serve for as long as needed.
“We are tools for the party because the party will decide on everything,” he said.
In addition, he said DAP is a unique party for putting a term limit on positions held by leaders, apart from allocating a 30% quota for women in the leadership.
Meanwhile, when asked about the unfavourable nicknames – “tokong” and “sombong” - given to him, Lim does not seem to be bothered.
The former finance minister said it is just an attempt by opponents to create a negative perception of him.
“That’s their game. If we do the work, they’d say we are arrogant. What can I do? I can’t just stop doing what I do.
“If I help the people, it’s said to be arrogant. When I visit places to help those in need, would that be arrogant too?
Yesterday, Getaran reported Lim saying in the same interview that rejection of the “big tent” strategy will result in split votes among the opposition parties, thus affecting the results of the 15th General Election (GE15). – The Vibes, June 12, 2022
