KUALA LANGAT – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lambasted those holding the reign of power in Putrajaya for enabling modern-day “slavery” and failing in their duty to uplift the people.
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and PKR president claimed that the government has failed to address the nation’s declining education standards, stagnating wages, and the rising cost of living, along with many other socio-economic problems.
“There is no slavery now, but there are companies who make millions in profit yet pay their employees only RM1,000 a month. Isn’t that slavery?
“Even though Malaysia is a free country, its people are enslaved. Revenue from petroleum and logging are all plundered by the leadership,” he said during a ceramah held at Dataran Pantai Morib here last night.
The Port Dickson MP also chided political leaders who often touted that they are the champions of their respective races and religions while enriching themselves through corruption and illicit means.
“Every time they will fall back on the notion of elevating the Malays. I am okay if they are truly helping the Malays. But tell me which Malays they are helping.
“The only Malays they are helping are the Datuk Seris and the Tan Sris who are just endlessly chasing after contracts,”' he said, without referring to any specific party.
However, Anwar also lamented the actions of those who adore political leaders that have been found guilty of misappropriating public funds.
“There are those who look up to the leaders who are guilty of corruption. Where is the dignity in this?” he said.
The talk was held as part of Jelajah Harapan Selangor, an information campaign by the PH-led state government to engage with constituents in key areas.
Also present at the event was Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, state executive councillor V. Ganapathi Rao and Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, among other PH state leaders. – The Vibes, June 26, 2022
