KUALA LUMPUR – Two men in a Proton Waja were caught on CCTV cameras throwing two plastic bags filled with red and black paint at the signboard of the Crackhouse Comedy Club here.

In a statement, Brickfields district chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor said a report was lodged by a 50-year-old local man after a bank’s front door was vandalised.

The damage, estimated to be around RM3,000, was seen when the complainant and Hong Leong Bank workers reported to work at 8.15am.

After inspecting footage from the bank’s CCTV cameras, police found that the incident took place between 4.15am and 5.09am today.

Police added that black paint thrown in the direction of the restaurant next door had damaged the bank’s door while the footage will be sent to the forensic department for expert analysis.

Meanwhile, the owner of the restaurant directly below the comedy club made a police report at 4.56am that the premises were vandalised as well.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

Police appealed to anyone with information on the case to contact any police station or the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297-9222, or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115-9999.

Earlier, The Vibes reported that posters lining the walls of the stairs leading up to the club were also vandalised.

Recently, the comedy club was embroiled in controversy following a viral video of a woman claiming to be a Muslim and to have memorised 15 chapters (juzuk) of the Quran before stripping off her headscarf and baju kurung during an open mic comedy skit at the club on June 4.

Siti Nuramira Abdullah, 26, pleaded not guilty against charges of inciting religious disharmony during her stunt.

It is learnt that she will be rearrested and charged under Section 7 of the Shariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997, relating to insulting, or bringing into contempt, etc the religion of Islam.

Club co-founder Rizal van Geyzel, 39, is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

In a statement issued by federal police secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin, police said the arrest on July 14 was to assist investigations into two videos purportedly taken at a comedy club. – The Vibes, July 19, 2022
