MIRI – Police in Sibu have arrested a local man accused of brandishing what appears to be a parang (machete) to threaten another man during a road rage incident in town.

Sibu police chief Zulkipli Suhaili said today that the suspect is a 27-year old man who was driving a vehicle when he was recorded in a video clip that has gone viral on social media.

The suspect is being remanded and probed for using a dangerous weapon and threatening the safety of others, he said in a statement.

The arrest was carried out following a police report filed by a 37-year-old man at Jalan Upper Lanang, he said.

Police have identified and arrested the suspect who is shown in the video.

“We are bringing him to the Sibu court today to facilitate his remand.

“We have classified the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code (for criminal intimidation),” he said.

The video shot by someone from inside the victim’s car showed the suspect driving a red car while speeding head-on before swirling in front of the victim.

The suspect appeared to be brandishing a long object through his open car window. He then sped off in his vehicle.

The victim in his report claimed that the suspect had acted aggressively after he sounded his car horn at the suspect for driving recklessly near him. – The Vibes, August 3, 2022
