MIRI – A 10-year-old boy is missing after a boat carrying four family members capsized this morning in Sg Rajang, Kapit.

A search and rescue operation by the Kapit Fire and Rescue Department is underway.

The Kapit Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency alert at about 9.45am that a boat had capsized off the wharf at the town riverfront.

The initial report said the boat was manned by a villager named Antas Agang who was heading to Kapit town from his settlement with his wife and two of his children.

“The boat engine broke down and the boat was swept away by river currents and slammed into a barge,” said the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in a statement.

“The boat overturned and all the four fell overboard. Three survived and have been rescued. The 10-year-old boy is still missing.”
