KOTA BARU – The Kelantan government does not plan to issue compound notices to owners of premises who do not fly the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.

State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Dr Izani Husin said business premises, however, are encouraged to hoist the national flag to enliven the celebrations.

“So far, we have not reached that stage (compounds), although we see that the spirit of patriotism is on the wane, especially in Kelantan itself.

“We encourage all business premises to fly the national and state flags to show their love for the country,” he told reporters after officiating the closing of the 2022 Environmental Health and Plastic, Polystyrene and Straw-Free campaigns at Dataran Muhammadi here today.

It was previously reported that Kuantan City Council would issue compounds to business operators who do not display the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the two celebrations.

Elaborating, Dr Izani said the state government, through the local authorities, other government agencies and non-governmental organisations, would hold various programmes like the Merdeka convoy tour to enliven the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign.

Meanwhile, Dr Izani said the state government would further increase allocations for cleanliness management in Kelantan.

“We need to acknowledge the high cost involved in managing cleanliness in terms of garbage collection, provision of garbage disposal sites and so on.

“So, for next year’s budget, we will further increase it to enable us to obtain sophisticated equipment to manage cleanliness as well as overcome issues related to clogged drains and so on,” he said. – Bernama, August 16, 2022
