SHAH ALAM – The government has given assurance that massive flash floods which devastated Selangor will not recur after announcing a RM6.3 billion allocation for infrastructure development and service delivery activities in the state.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the allocation has been approved under the Second Rolling Plan of 2022 of the 12th Malaysia Plan.
Among initiatives to be implemented are five flood mitigation projects in Selangor with an allocation of RM4.7 billion, he added.
“This will be expedited to mitigate severe floods – which affect people’s wellbeing and state’s economy, as well as the country’s – will not happen again,” he said at the Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia event in Malawati Stadium here today.
“The government also took proactive steps to plan a new approach including the construction of appropriate and more sustainable and comprehensive infrastructure in Selangor.”
In line with the One Family, One House aspiration, he said a total of 14,328 houses in Selangor have been built as of June, under various programmes such as the People’s Housing Project and Malaysian Civil Servant Housing.
“Efforts to provide housing for Malaysian families, especially the B40 and M40 groups continue to be an important agenda for the government.”
In other news, the Bera MP said 400,000 jobs have been filled nationwide since the job guarantee scheme was launched last year.
“Since a year ago, the unemployment rate also declined to 3.8% in June 2022, lowest since Covid-19 pandemic from 4.6% in August 2021.”
In addition, to reduce inflationary pressure on the people, he said the government has already spent RM77.3 billion on subsidies – the largest amount of subsidies in the nation’s history – covering petrol, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, cooking oil, flour and electricity.
Meanwhile, he also expressed confidence that foreign investors will continue to invest in the country as a result of the policies implemented by the government.
“For the past nine months, our country recorded a foreign direct investment (FDI) value of RM74.1 billion, outpacing the annual FDI for the years 2021, 2020, 2019 and 2018.” – The Vibes, August 19, 2022
