‘Keluar dari tempurung’, address real issues instead of concerts: Yii tells PAS

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP Youth chief Dr Kelvin Yii is not letting his peer at PAS get away with recent comments on the “litany of concerts angering God”, saying it is unconstructive and only creates animosity among Malaysians.

PAS Youth chief and Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said on his Facebook account yesterday that the continuous hosting of concerts is “crazy work” that invites “God’s wrath”.

He had urged for such concerts to be stopped and warned against “challenging the emotions of Muslims”, while calling for a united front to oppose them.

Fadhli’s comments came after Billie Eilish performed at the Bukit Jalil stadium on Thursday night, which was attended by scores of fans dressed in neon swags and mascara-clad fits.

This did not sit well with Yii as he said such thinking shows that PAS is bankrupt of ideas and has nothing constructive to offer Malaysians but create animosity in a multicultural and plural society.

He added that what brings “real anger” is corruption, bad governance, inequality, discrimination, oppressive laws, and even threats of harm against another, including members of the judiciary

“When Malaysians are grappling with a surge of cost of living and a gloomy economy, all PAS seem to care about is to ‘moral police’ others while often trying to interfere with rights of other Malaysians that are protected under the federal constitution.

“PAS should acknowledge and respect that Malaysians are able to think and evaluate any form of entertainment for themselves, and that the fate of the country lies on good governance and policies rather than the number of concerts that we have.”

Yii then challenged PAS to “keluar dari tempurung” and address real issues affecting Malaysians rather than trying to infringe the rights of others that are protected under the federal constitution. – The Vibes, August 20, 2022
