KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will continue to back its former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak throughout the trials for other cases he is facing to ensure he receives justice and is not victimised by political pressure.

Party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the “Umno family” had expressed its sadness at the end of Najib’s appeal at the Federal Court, yesterday.

“Umno feels very aggrieved that the process and space for the former prime minister to defend himself, especially the efforts to present new evidence and the delay to enable his new defence team to prepare, have been denied.

“For Umno, the decision of the Federal Court yesterday will not erase the great service of Najib as the prime minister who has brought Malaysia to the pinnacle of success and put the country on the world stage before it was blighted by the failure of two governments after the last general election,” he said in a statement today.

Zahid said the former Umno president’s spirit and fighting power, in defending himself and appearing on the front line to boost the party’s image after the 14th general election defeat, will continue to endure.

The Bagan Datuk MP also called on all Umno members to be calm and instead be determined to correct all flaws in the system to guarantee justice as its agenda.

“This includes the expose by former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas about the political interference by the previous Pakatan Harapan prime minister in the appointment of judges and the course of the country’s legal system,” he added. – The Vibes, August 24, 2022
