BUKIT MERTAJAM – More than 80 Immigration Department personnel at the Juru depot have had their quarantine extended by another week as a precaution against the spread of Covid-19.
Not all of them have received their test results, therefore, the entire group is required to stay in the facility.
The Vibes has learnt that a decision will be made after everyone has received their results.
The officers are in good condition, with their health status being monitored.
Two foreign women and a baby tested positive for the coronavirus at the depot last week, leading to its temporary closure.
An internal inquiry last week found that the index cases may be two nurses who treated two Indonesian women, who later tested positive, at the depot.
The women and baby were admitted to Kepala Batas Hospital and discharged late last week, and have since been taken back to the depot.
No new cases have been reported at the facility, which has been sanitised, over the past week.
Penang yesterday recorded 15 fresh infections and 33 recoveries. The state has logged a total of 1,768 cases since the pandemic struck.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Saturday said the government will introduce “travel bubble” standard operating procedures to revitalise domestic tourism.
The guidelines will cover, among others, travel between green zones within a red state.
The Juru depot has been sealed off, with some 1,000 detainees under quarantine besides the immigration officers. – The Vibes, November 23, 2020
