KUALA LUMPUR – The military assets that broke down in Jalan Damansara yesterday and today had engine troubles after the National Day parade rehearsals, confirmed the Malaysian Army.
In a statement today, the army apologised for the incidents and promised to ensure they will not recur, as well as the affected assets have been towed by the recovery teams to minimise traffic congestion.
The army explained that yesterday at 10.30am, a PT-91M Pendekar had engine troubles in Jalan Damansara at the Carcosa exit heading to KL Sentral.
“The PT-91M Pendekar had finished participating in the rehearsal and was on its way to the designated parking area when its engine troubles started.
“An armoured recovery vehicle was deployed to help tow the tank to the designated parking spot near Muzium Negara at 11am.”
As for the 11.26am incident today in front of the museum, an armoured Prime Mover was heading to the Sg Besi military camp when its engine could not start.
A mechanic was sent to the location for repair work and completed it by 12.30pm.
The army has a total of 129 vehicle assets involved in the National Day parade this year.
However, these incidents have prompted lawmakers and Malaysians to raise concerns over the maintenance of military assets and field questions to Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein about national security. – The Vibes, August 27, 2022
