A MILITARY personnel was arrested after driving drunk and crashing into an e-hailing MPV, killing one person on the MEX Highway from Salak Selatan towards Jalan Tun Razak, early this morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said police received a report of the incident at 5.38 am involving a crash involving a Perodua Alza and a Ford Fiesta.
According to him, initial investigations found that the Ford Fiesta driven by a 31-year-old man, who is also a military personnel, entered the opposite lane before colliding head-on with an e-hailing MPV driven by a 41-year-old man.
"The MPV was carrying two Bangladeshi passengers, a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman who had just arrived from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
"As a result of the collision, the male passenger sitting in the middle row was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head injuries," he said in a statement today.
He said the female passenger, a Bangladeshi national, sustained injuries to her body and is currently being treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
"The driver of the e-hailing MPV was also injured in the head, while the driver of the Ford Fiesta was slightly injured.
"Another 36-year-old local female passenger in the Ford Fiesta was also injured and is receiving treatment at the same hospital," he said.
Mohd Zamzuri said the breath alcohol test on the driver of the Ford Fiesta found the reading to be above the permitted limit, while the urine test was negative.
He said the driver involved had been arrested and the case was being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020) for driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death.
