PARTI Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information Chief, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has left it to the Premier of Sarawak, who is also the Chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to determine the GPS candidates for the upcoming 13th State Election (PRN13).

“It is up to the Premier of Sarawak to decide on new candidates and those who will be dropped ahead of nomination day.

“It is his prerogative,” he said.

Addressing the possibility that he might not defend his seat in the upcoming election, Abdul Karim stated that he is prepared to make way for another candidate.

However, he emphasised that the final decision rests on the party’s deliberations and the needs of the constituents in the area he represents.

“I am prepared to step aside.

“But if the party and the residents still feel that my services are required, then I cannot turn down that request,” he added.

Abdul Karim reiterated that the selection of candidates to contest in PRN13 remains under the purview of the party leadership.

Earlier, Abang Johari announced the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), effective Monday, October 26, to pave the way for PRN13.

He noted that the dissolution received the assent of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, following an audience during which they discussed the tenure of the State Legislative Assembly and other matters concerning the state's interests.

"In accordance with Article 21(4) of the Sarawak State Constitution, the state election must be held within 60 days from the date of dissolution, while the new State Legislative Assembly must be convened no later than 120 days from that date," he said during a special press conference at the Satria Pertiwi Complex yesterday. – October 24, 2026
