HER Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, has called for greater attention to the mental health of children and adolescents, stressing the need for effective support systems to identify emotional distress early and provide appropriate assistance.
Her Majesty said concerns over mental health issues among young people had prompted Istana Negara to hold discussions on initiatives to strengthen complaint mechanisms and counselling services, particularly for adolescents facing emotional difficulties and other life challenges.
The discussions focused on ensuring that assistance channels were accessible, safe and effective, while strengthening support for students who require attention and help.
Her Majesty said the Malaysian Counselling Association (Perkama International) had also initiated direct involvement in the effort, working with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry through registered and trained counsellors accredited by the Board of Counsellors.
“The mental health of children and adolescents must be prioritised.
“They need to know that we love them. It is our collective responsibility, regardless of rank, position or occupation, to safeguard their physical and mental health and pay attention to their emotions, whether they are at home or at school,” Her Majesty said in a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s Facebook page today.
She also stressed the importance of continuously raising public awareness of mental health so that signs of emotional distress could be recognised early and appropriate help provided. - October 23, 2026
