TWO young motorcyclists were killed in a suspected hit-and-run crash on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway near the Penang Bridge interchange in George Town early today.

The victims, a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were travelling from George Town towards the bridge when the crash occurred at about 4am.

Northeast District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said preliminary investigations indicated that their motorcycle was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle at the junction branching towards the Penang Bridge and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

“Both victims died at the scene from severe injuries. Their bodies were sent to Penang Hospital for post-mortem examinations,” he said today.

Abdul Rozak said police were tracing the driver of the vehicle, who allegedly fled after the collision.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Anyone with information is urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Shahidatul Alyaa Nordin at 019-6886106 to assist with investigations.
