KUCHING – The Sarawak Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Ministry will be given a new name, said its minister Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi Utom.
He said the name change has been agreed upon by the state government and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to announce the new name in the near future.
“The state government has agreed to the name change, which will see the addition of the word ‘commodity’, which means more commercialisation.
“Even though the ministry’s name will be changed, the focus is still the same. Along the way, we will need to adapt and change what we need,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the signing of an agreement for the Rambungan Aqualife Sdn Bhd shrimp farming project between State Farmers’ Organisation Sarawak and Sea Horse Corporation Sdn Bhd here.
Meanwhile, Rundi said the ministry’s approach is to focus on the socioeconomics of small-scale farmers among the B40 group so that they can generate a sustainable income.
“(We want to) transform the B40 group or small scale farmers… make sure they are more sustainable in terms of income, then we develop those who we can into agropreneurs,” he added. – Bernama, September 7, 2022
