KUALA LUMPUR – Newly-sacked Umno member Zaharin Mohd Yasin has described the decision made by the Supreme Council last night as “instant noodles” even though he will not appeal against it.
Zaharin, who is also a political observer with the pen name Sang Kelembai, said in a separate Facebook video yesterday, that his friends in PKR will suggest to party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim his candidacy for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat.
“If Anwar is not running for that seat, they said I should be the one to replace him for the Bandar Tun Razak seat.
“I’m not interested but if the opposition leaders are keen, I’ll consider it. If I run on the PH (Pakatan Harapan) ticket with PKR, I can win the seat as I have many supporters there.”
Meanwhile, Zaharin said he did not receive a show-cause notice nor was he summoned by the party’s disciplinary board.
He added that his division – Bandar Tun Razak Umno – did not submit official complaints to the party’s secretary-general’s office for disciplinary action.
“The decision (to sack) is seen as a private move by the party president (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) and the ‘court cluster’. And is seen as an ‘instant noodles’ decision.
“What is the point? Is it to stop me from talking and writing about the president’s political evils, who is said to be corrupt?” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page today.
He added that the sacking from Umno will not stop him from encouraging Malaysians to reject Barisan Nasional and linchpin Umno, which is led by a “thief”.
Zaharin then “thanked” the Umno Supreme Council for removing him from the party as it has given him a free hand to pen his opinions.
Yesterday, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan read a statement in the party headquarters here on Zaharin’s sacking, among others.
While no specifics were shared, Ahmad said Zaharin was sacked according to Clauses 5.9, 10.6 and 20.9 in the party’s constitution.
Clause 5.9 refers to the Supreme Council’s ultimate powers to retract someone’s party membership while Clause 10.6 is on membership status.
Clause 20.9 outlines seven items expected of all Umno members, including keeping party secrets, respecting party decisions and maintaining the party’s good name. – The Vibes, October 1, 2022
