KELANA JAYA – Incumbent Damansara MP Tony Pua has announced that he will not be contesting in the coming 15th general election (GE15).

Speaking during a DAP fundraising event at Kelana Jaya here today, Pua said that the decision was made of his own volition.

“DAP leaders did their part to persuade me (against not contesting for GE15) but this is my decision, one which I made many years ago,” he said.

A visibly emotional Pua added that he would still be actively involved in party matters, albeit from a more “behind the scenes” position.

“Rest assured, I will not be disappearing into the horizon and sailing into the sunset.

“I am well aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I will be utilising my strengths to continue helping the party to achieve its goals.”

Praising him as “one of the most hardworking MPs in Parliament,” DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said that Pua had “massively contributed” to the party's development.

“Since his election (as MP) in 2008, (Pua) has not stopped working.

“Every day and night, whether or not Parliament is in session, he did his research on various subjects and exposed numerous scandals,” Loke said. – The Vibes, October 26, 2022
