KOTA KINABALU – A 25-year-old man has been detained by police in Inanam near here for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl after luring her with sweets.

The child was walking home from her aunt’s house some 100m behind a commercial complex when the suspect stopped her and gave her candy, before asking her to follow him to a nearby hut, where she was assaulted.

City police chief Habibi Majinji said the suspect took out a knife and threatened to use it on the girl if she ran away.

“She could only cry when the suspect showed the knife and started to rape her.”

The man then gave the girl RM5 to buy her silence.

“The girl ran home crying and told her mother, who lodged a police report,” said Habibi.

The victim has been taken to hospital.

The suspect was arrested about 1.30pm yesterday not far from the scene of the alleged crime. He tested positive for meth. – The Vibes, November 27, 2020
