KUALA LUMPUR – Muda tonight confirmed that Muar incumbent and party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will defend the parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).
This is in spite of his ongoing criminal trial involving criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of funds, and money laundering of RM1 million of Bersatu youth wing’s funds.
Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz announced at an event in Muar tonight that Syed Saddiq is the best choice for Muda to win the federal seat in Johor because of his people-orientated programmes and excellent service.
In a short speech following the announcement, Syed Saddiq said he would like to continue his work of serving the people of Muar and asked to be given another term.
“I would like to renew my contract with the people of Muar. In 2018, I was given the opportunity to do so and now, in 2022, I plead to you again to give me the same opportunity.
“I will remain committed to the people of Muar regardless of the circumstances, come rain or shine,” he said.
The 29-year-old former youth and sports minister said that although he had his hands full with his ministerial portfolio during the Pakatan Harapan administration, he never failed to return to Muar every week to serve his constituents.
He said he had a proven track record in the constituency, having spent around RM50 million for development and welfare initiatives.
Last week, Syed Saddiq was asked to enter his defence in his money laundering trial.
The court has set February 22 to 24, March 13 and 14, and April 10 to 14 as trial dates. – The Vibes, November 2, 2022
