NILAI – Five of the eight candidates to be fielded by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Negri Sembilan for the 15th general election (GE15) are new faces, said state PN adviser Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.

He said the move to field fresh faces was in keeping with current political developments and trends in the country.

"”In the current situation, there is a need to field young candidates. In the case of PN, we are taking a bold step by fielding five new and young faces this time,” he told reporters at a ceremony to introduce the parliamentary candidates and launch the state PN election machinery in Putra Nilai today.

Incumbent Kuala Pilah MP Datuk Eddin Syazlee Shith will be defending the seat while the others will be contesting parliamentary seats for the first time.

However, two of the candidates – Datuk David Choong Vee Hing (Rasah) and Abdul Halim Abu Bakar (Tampin) – had contested in state seats before.

The five making their debut in polls are Mohd Fadhli Che Me (Seremban), Rafiei Mustapha (Port Dickson), Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus (Rembau), Zaharuddin Baba Samion (Jelebu) and Muhammad Noraffendy Mohd Salleh (Jempol).

Polling has been set for November 19, while nomination day is on Saturday (November 5) and early voting on November 15. – Bernama, November 3, 2022
