KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is optimistic about her chances in Bandar Tun Razak despite competing against former party colleague Datuk Kamaruddin Jaffar.
Following today’s nomination for the parliamentary seat, here she informed the reporters: “He is the one who left us…(it was) not us who left him.”
Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the former deputy prime minister, has stated that all voters must support PH in order for the coalition to keep its parliamentary majority.
“I would have to look at the voters. The main issue is that they are experiencing ‘voter fatigue’.
“We already won in 2018, and (the incumbent) switched parties afterwards,” she remarked.
She will be contesting in a three-corner fight against Barisan Nasional’s Chew Yin Keen and incumbent Kamaruddin, who is now with Perikatan Nasional.
In the 14th general election of 2018, Kamaruddin had taken the seat with 41,126 votes under the PH-PKR ticket, defeating challenger Adnan Seman who obtained 21,196 votes and PAS candidate Rosni Adam who had 7,884 votes.
However, Kamaruddin exited PKR during the Sheraton Move and formed the PN administration under ousted prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in 2020.
Meanwhile, Kamaruddin said anyone who believes that they are qualified to contest in the area has the right to do so.
As such, he expressed confidence in his service record in the constituency.
“We have made every effort to fulfil the people’s wishes.
“This is by assuring the continued growth of housing and infrastructure for the people, to which we have continued to pay close attention.
“I am happy for the opportunity to compete again, and I am convinced that the people and voters in the Bandar Tun Razak can compare my service record against that of other candidates,” he added. – The Vibes, November 5, 2022
