KUALA LUMPUR – The Terengganu election court has nullified the victory of PAS’ Che Alias Hamid, who was declared the winner of the Kemaman parliamentary seat in the 15th general election.

Judge Datuk Anselm Charles Fernandis allowed the petition filed by Barisan Nasional’s Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil.

He said Wan Mohamad had succeeded in proving there was bribery with the aim of influencing voters.

The court also ordered Che Alias to pay costs of RM30,000 to Wan Mohamad.

On February 12, Wan Mohamad’s petition was struck out after the high court accepted the preliminary objections raised by the respondents in the case.

However, the petition was reinstated by the Federal Court on the basis that there were issues which merited a full hearing.

The apex court also ordered that the case be heard by a different judge.
