KUALA LUMPUR – PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil tonight likened the toppling of the democratically elected Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to a contractor winning a bid to fix a house before the back door was breached midway through the tender.
Addressing some 400 supporters at a PH ceramah in the Lembah Pantai constituency, Fahmi, who is defending the seat, said when the coalition entered an “open tender” to win a contract to mend the “Malaysia house” in May 2018, it was meant to be for a five-year period.
“We won the contract fair and square. It was supposed to be five years, but not even two years in, there were some creatures who chose to make a hole in the roof and entered the house.
“These frogs entered through the back door, and they kicked us out. Our contract hadn’t ended, but they accused us of being a failure. If anyone said we failed, tell them, PH didn’t fail, but we were failed (by the traitors).”
Fahmi said it is now PH’s intention to re-enter the open tender and win a new five-year contract, in reference to the coming general election.
“We don’t intend to get kicked out again. Our ceiling has been sealed, when Parliament passed an anti-party hopping law. There won’t be any more frogs!”
In the 2018 nationwide polls, PH secured a surprise victory against the ruling Barisan Nasional and formed the federal government. Before it could complete a five-year term, the infamous Sheraton Move in 2020 led to the collapse of the new administration.
The move was caused by the defection of PH-component Bersatu – as well as several PKR leaders led by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali – who quit the party to form a new government with Umno and PAS.
Making further comparisons, Fahmi said when PH won the “tender” in 2020, the coalition was expecting minor fixes to an otherwise “okay” house.
“Our minister friends thought the only issues were some damage to the tiles, the ceiling fan, and light switches.
“But when we did our audit, we found that the whole foundation had been totally damaged, the ceiling fan had fallen, and when we switched on the lights, the wiring had shortages.
“They (opponents) may claim we were a failure in 22 months. Don’t believe them. We were failed by the traitors, but at least we didn’t cause damage to this house called Malaysia.” – The Vibes, November 5, 2022
