CYBERJAYA – Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Sg Buloh hopeful, Khairy Jamaluddin, said he will have no problem taking care of the constituency and being prime minister at the same time.
Responding to criticism from Datuk R. Ramanan, his Pakatan Harapan (PH) opponent in the federal seat for the coming general election, the caretaker health minister said the parliamentary system allowed an MP to care of their constituency while also leading at the federal level.
“I think taking care of the area and having ambitions at the national level is not a problem.
“This is our parliamentary system. We take care of our area and we can also be a leader at the national level,” Khairy said at a press conference after an event at Cyberjaya Hospital today, as reported by Getaran, The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal.
Ramanan recently slammed Khairy for admitting his prime ministerial ambitions, urging Sg Buloh voters to choose an MP who would take care of the constituency instead of politicking to achieve the country’s top post.
BN’s candidate to lead the federal government should the coalition win the national polls is Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the current caretaker prime minister.
Khairy today said that even when he was minister, he had never neglected constituents in his former seat, Rembau, which he held for three terms. Prior to becoming health minister, he had also held the science, technology, and innovation portfolio.
“As long as I am a minister, I can take care of my area well. So even in Sg Buloh, I can do the same thing.
“If appointed at the cabinet level, there will be no problem for me to take care of the area.
Khairy and Ramanan, who are in a seven-cornered contest for Sg Buloh, have been sparring in recent days over each other’s political history, as well as the former’s ambition to be prime minister. – The Vibes, November 11, 2022
