MELAKA – Two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) were opened in Alor Gajah after the district was hit by flash floods at midnight last night due to heavy rain that started at 5.30pm yesterday.

The Melaka Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, in a statement, said that as of 8am today, a total of 29 people from 10 families were housed at the Kg Gadek community hall and Bukit Balai hall in Durian Tunggal.

“The two PPS were opened at 12.45am and 1am respectively when five villages, namely Kg Kuala Sungga Tebong, Kg Orang Asli Hutan Percha, Kg Gadek, Kg Bukit Tambun and Kg Bukit Balai were hit by flash floods,” read the statement.

It also said that all the evacuees were moved to the PPS after heavy rain caused low-lying areas to be flooded. – Bernama, November 12, 2022
