BELURAN – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman must take action against its politicians who help Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Beluran candidate Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee campaign to honour the GRS-Barisan Nasional (BN) pact, said Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
He said GRS leaders in Beluran helping Kiandee campaign, going against BN’s candidate Benedict Asmat must be stopped, and GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor must take stern action against the individuals after the general election.
“Officially, Kiandee contesting against a BN candidate in Beluran is not GRS going against BN, because he is contesting under PN.
“But the ones who are violating the GRS-BN pact are the GRS leaders who are campaigning for this candidate (Kiandee),” he said at a press conference after a campaign talk programme here today.
Kiandee, who was not chosen as a GRS-BN candidate, is contesting under PN against BN’s Asmat.
Bung Moktar said he had asked Hajiji to take necessary action against the individuals, including terminating them from their positions in the state cabinet.
“He (Hajiji) must take action after the general election. If he (the GRS leader helping Kiandee) has a position, terminate it; if he is an assistant minister (in Sabah), terminate it.
“Because if we leave them be, we will continue to be challenged and our followers will no longer respect their leaders.”
Bung Moktar added that if such behaviours are not stopped, it will portray a bad image for the Sabah government, and show that GRS and BN do not have an infallible relationship.
While it cannot be ascertained as to whom Bung Moktar was referring to, Samad Jambri who is Bersatu’s Labuk representative in the Beluran state seat, who is also Sabah’s assistant rural development minister, was rumoured to be present in Kiandee’s campaign this week.
Commenting on Asmat’s support in Beluran, Bung Moktar said he is confident with the people’s support, as the people here want to see a change in the constituency.
Kiandee had held Beluran for five terms since 1999.
Bung Moktar also said that Kiandee had won the seat for five terms under BN’s ticket, and was sure that the coalition’s supporters would secure Asmat winning this time.
Later in Libaran, he told reporters that he felt that Kiandee’s move might be a personal attack against him.
