BANGI – “We do not get to choose our race when we are brought into this world, but at least we get to choose the leaders of our future,” said Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi.
Speaking at a rally in Bandar Baru Bangi here last night, the 31-year-old said that every time election season is around the corner, many politicians almost never miss out on bringing up racial issues.
They should instead work on issues that could benefit the livelihoods of the people in the country, rather than trying to divide them, he stressed.
“We were born into this world without having the option to choose our race. I mean, if I could choose, maybe I would want to be a white man, just saying. But I cannot, can I?” he quipped.
“No matter the race, be it Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, or others, all we want is to develop this country together. We love our country.
“When we get the chance to elect our leaders, we need to elect the good ones, especially the ones with integrity, instead of those who would always poison us with racial issues whenever the election season is looming.”
Amir was speaking alongside former DAP MP for Damansara Tony Pua and Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Bangi, Syahredzan Johan.
Muda has agreed to an electoral pact with PH for the 15th general election as announced by PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last month.
Amir also reminded attendees to not quarrel with family members and friends over different political views.
He said they should set political issues away from personal matters in order to balance the harmony within their relationships. – The Vibes, November 13, 2022
