KUALA LUMPUR – Incumbent Damansara MP Tony Pua will be issuing a letter of demand to Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin for allegedly slandering him on social media.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Badrul, who is better known as Chegubard, had alleged that Pua had owned a company that was offered a contract to develop an internet application by Tabung Haji while serving as the political secretary to the finance minister in 2019.

“Clearly, he wants to arouse anger and negative sentiments among the people, especially Muslims, against me, DAP, and Pakatan Harapan with such malicious slander,” he said in a statement today.

Badrul had further alleged that the aforementioned company was awarded a contract worth RM4.53 million from Tabung Haji during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) rule.

“This contract was signed by two individuals representing Cyber Village, namely Shieh Yee Bing and Sua Shii Huey.

“I checked who Cyber Village really is and found that this company is owned by another company called Silverlake Axis Ltd based in Singapore, with almost all the board of directors and management of the company being non-Bumiputera.

“For what reason was the Thijari Application Development contract given to a company owned by non-Muslims?

“None of its shareholders were Muslims when reviewed,” Chegubard wrote in his post, claiming that one of the individuals who owned the majority of shares at the time was Pua.

In response to the post, Pua said that he has not owned a single share in Cyber Village Sdn Bhd since 15 years ago while admitting that he headed the company until 2006.

“I also want to emphasise that Tabung Haji is not a government statutory body under the auspices of the Finance Ministry.

“The Finance Ministry never once intervened in any Tabung Haji transactions and dealings during the Pakatan Harapan administration, except during the need to save Tabung Haji with an injection of RM17.9 billion,” said Pua.

“This is not the first time that Chegubard has slandered me. In May 2022, he had to make an open apology to me over two more Facebook posts that he published in 2019, after I brought a defamation suit to court.”

“I will take legal action again against Chegubard if he does not retract all his accusations and apologise to me immediately.

“I will also take similar action if anyone else makes similar accusations across any media platform,” he added. – The Vibes, November 14, 2022
