KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) has claimed that Felda settlers in Pagoh were offered RM1,000 in cash by the opposing party to vote for them for the 15th general election this Saturday.
Pagoh BN chairman Ismail Mohamed said his team received the information from several residents in Felda Sri Jaya and Sri Ledang, since yesterday.
However, he admitted he was unable to confirm whether the opposition coalition or party had committed the alleged vote-buying due to the lack of solid evidence.
“I do not have photo proof yet, but I heard RM1,000 per household.
“I have no problem bringing this up because Felda people told me to,” he said when met by the media at the Sri Pekembar Complex here. today.
Ismail, who is also the Pagoh Umno division chief, said based on the complaints received, the “reward” was being given to voters from house to house.
“We are very disappointed that the voters in Pagoh were not taught enough about dirty politics.
“This is not a good way for a party to get votes,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail said that his party is currently collecting evidence and will lodge a police report about the issue soon.
“Perhaps those who have received only complained, but those who have received after this should show proof so that we don’t just make baseless accusations,” he said.
Ismail also called on the Election Commission to visit every district polling centre as different parties are setting up closed-operations rooms.
“That raises doubts, and we are also gathering evidence for this.”
