KUALA LUMPUR – With the party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to be sworn in as the country’s 10th prime minister in a few hours, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar have called for calm and reconciliation.
In a statement today, Rafizi advised supporters not to hold any gatherings to avoid provocation.
“Be careful with media statements that are issued by political leaders and be mindful of social media contents and short messaging services (SMS and WhatsApp) that can cause concerns and become an excuse for provocation,” he added.
“Just as how Keadilan (PKR) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) did not issue any statements during the days following the general election in their effort to form the government, I ask that supporters and members of Keadilan and PH assist in quelling any situation (that may arise),” Rafizi said.
Meanwhile Nurul Izzah, who is Anwar’s daughter, had a more personalised message, saying that while they had been soldiering on since 1998 when Anwar was sacked as deputy prime minister, challenges still await with priority given to uniting the country.
“The challenges are still waiting – and after the oath-taking ceremony – (there will be) efforts to unite fellow countrymen, address the problem of (an) economy in shackles, attract investment through economic stimulus and local talent, and build a community and nation based on true social justice and nationality,” she said.
She added: “I love you, Papa. Am always proud of you – even as you lay imprisoned as a prisoner of conscience.
