JOHOR BARU – The state Pakatan Harapan (PH) believes the formation of a unity government at the federal level would be beneficial to the Johor government.

In a statement today, the coalition expressed confidence that the federal government under the leadership of the 10th Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will ensure a more balanced and fair federalism system between Putrajaya and the state governments across the country.

“This can contribute to economic revival, health, development and quality of life for all Malaysians,” the statement reads.

The coalition urged state Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to strengthen the bipartisan collaboration between the state government and the opposition bloc in Johor in line with the people’s welfare agenda.

In thanking the voters for the result of the recently concluded 15th general election (GE15), Johor PH said the coalition had managed to secure 15 federal seats in the state to contribute to the formation of the unity government led by the bloc at the federal level.

PH said that while Johor was known to be an Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) bastion in the past, the result of GE15 indicated “Bangsa Johor” embraced the coalition as it made further inroads into the state.

“It is a clear message that the people want PH’s authoritative leadership at the federal level as well as the majority choice in Johor.”

The statement was jointly issued by Johor PH chairman Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, Amanah state chief Aminolhuda Hassan, PKR deputy state chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and DAP state chief Liew Chin Tong.

State PKR leader Jimmy Puah Wee Tsee had previously suggested that the state government consider allowing the coalition’s elected representatives to sit in the District Development Action Committee.

The suggestion however was met with disdain from Umno veteran leader Tan Sri Shahrir Samad who reminded PH that BN holds a firm grip on the Johor government following their landslide victory in last March’s state polls. – The Vibes, December 2, 2022
