KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook had made a surprise visit to the LRT Kelana Jaya line to see for himself the congestion experienced by commuters during rush hour this evening.

On Facebook, Loke said he spent two hours on the train line during a busy period between 5pm to 7pm.

“The situation was very congested in the trains and certainly uncomfortable for commuters,” he said in a caption of the Facebook post.

“I did not inform the management of (LRT operators) Prasarana and the media, because I wanted to personally experience the actual situation faced by normal commuters to feel what they went through every day.”

Loke, who is DAP secretary-general, added that he understood the inconveniences faced by the commuters and that he would hold a meeting with Prasarana’s top management this week to discuss ways to improve the public transport service.

Last week, the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd Employees’ Union expressed hope that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will consider appointing Loke as transport minister.

Its president Abdul Razak Md Hassan said the support for Loke was based on his track record while helming the ministry from May 2018 to February 2020.

“The union believes that the appointment would benefit public transport, especially in making it more efficient.” – The Vibes, December 5, 2022
