KUALA LUMPUR – The ministry that will be in charge of the arts and culture industry will be revealed today, said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Speaking during a press conference at Putrajaya, he said the arts and culture department will be moved to a different ministry, with the relevant minister to make an announcement on the matter sometime today.

“The arts and culture (department) will not be under my ministry. I will leave it to the relevant minister to make the announcement,” said the Lembah Pantai MP.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s cabinet line-up, unveiled on December 2, appeared to have left out the arts and culture sector, as Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was announced as tourism minister.

Following that announcement, Malaysians took to social media to question the status of the arts and culture department, with some expressing concern over the industry potentially being abandoned.

It was also rumoured that Fahmi would be given the duty of managing the department, as he is a well-known name in the arts industry, having previously been a theatre actor and writer. – The Vibes, December 7, 2022
