PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that the appointment of a new Treasury secretary-general is nothing out of the ordinary, following allegations that the move hints at a political play.

Speaking to reporters here after announcing the line-up of deputy ministers in the unity government, Anwar said he is leaving it up to Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali to handle the matter.

“(Appointing a new Treasury secretary-general) is a routine change. Issues brought up in the media are not involved.

“It is just a normal change which also relates to either a rise in ranks or a transfer of departments,” said Anwar.

On Wednesday, it was reported that present Treasury secretary-general Datuk Seri Asri Hamidon @ Hamidin is expected to be redesignated or transferred.

Asri, 56, was appointed on May 1, 2020 by the administration of then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and he served under then finance minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. – The Vibes, December 9, 2022
