KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Chester Voo has resigned as Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chief executive officer and will leave the post effective December 31.

CAAM chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abdul Rahman said Voo, 47, had stated his intention to leave in October but deferred his departure to the end of the year at the agency’s request.

“This postponement is to enable CAAM to undertake a smooth transition process and have an effective handover to the eventual successor for this position,” Khairul said in a statement.

In line with this, Voo together with CAAM’s other senior management had prepared a strategic plan for the aviation authority to implement next year.

Khairul said Voo’s resignation letter had been accepted by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said CAAM expressed its sincere appreciation to Voo for his unstinting dedication, passion, and remarkable work, which has included achievements such as regaining the United States Federal Aviation Administration’s (USFAA) Category 1 air safety rating and launching the new Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre.

Voo had also overseen the introduction of CAAM’s first client charter and the authority’s successful organisational restructuring, Khairul added.

CAAM was previously known as the Civil Aviation Department until 2018 when it was incorporated into a statutory body.

According to The Edge, Voo joined CAAM in June 2020 and spent two and a half years there working to improve Malaysia’s Category 2 rating under the USFAA, while also dealing with low staff morale and productivity. – The Vibes, December 14, 2022
