GEORGE TOWN – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a local fishing boat manned by a crew of five Myanmar nationals, who were found without any documents, 62 nautical miles west of Pulau Kendi near here yesterday.

Penang MMEA director Abd Razak Mohamed said the Class C2 fishing boat, which was using a trawler net to fish, was spotted by a MMEA patrol boat that was conducting Op Tanjung in the area.

“Following an inspection, it was found that the boat, based in Pantai Remis, Perak, was manned by five foreign crewmembers, aged between 20 to 43. All of them were detained for further investigation because they did not have valid travel and personal documents,” he said in a statement here today.

Razak said the boat with the five men and 150kg of marine catch was taken to the Limbongan Batu Maung jetty for further investigation. – Bernama, December 15, 2022
