SG BULOH – As the Batang Kali landslide search and rescue mission goes on, family members of missing victims still hold hopes that their loved ones have survived the ordeal.
This was related by Buddhist Tzu Chi volunteer Tan Chee Wei, whose organisation is providing moral support to grieving family members gathered at Sg Buloh Hospital’s forensic department, where the deceased victims’ identification process takes place.
“Our duty is to provide moral support and accompany them throughout this very difficult period. It is the least we can do.
“Even after being informed that there was little hope, some family members are still praying and hoping their loved ones are found alive,” he said.
Tan explained that the group which consists of nearly 50 volunteers has been providing aid to the affected victims and grieving family members since yesterday.
At the time of writing, 12 victims are still missing while 21 bodies have been found and 61 rescued out of a total of 94 victims of the landslide which hit a campsite in Batang Kali yesterday.
It is believed that the identification process of those who perished is still being carried out.
Among those feared missing or deceased are a group of teachers from SKJ (C) Mun Choong, who had organised a personal camping trip at the Father’s Organic Farm in Batang Kali.
It was previously reported that a group of 23 people from the school, including children, were victims of the incident. – The Vibes, December 17, 2022
