KUALA LUMPUR – A landslide has been reported at Terengganu’s KM393 Bukit Besi-Ajil in the East Coast Expressway 2 at 7.44am.
This resulted in the closure of the northbound route of Dungun-Ajil, and the Dungun and Bukit Besi toll plazas.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) said only a single lane on the southbound Ajil-Bukit Besi is open to drivers.
Last night, a landslip was reported in the same area at 6.40pm, leading to the opening of a contraflow lane between KM394.6 and KM392.4 to facilitate cleaning works.
The contraflow lane was for highway users heading to Kuala Terengganu and Kuantan.
By 9.40pm the area was reopened to users, except for the emergency lane and left lane in both directions.
MHA has advised highway users to be cautious when driving in bad weather.
Yesterday, the main routes connecting Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang were still accessible despite the floods.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said roads connecting the two east coast states with Terengganu, including the East Coast Expressway 2 and Jalan Pantai from Kemaman to Besut, were still accessible as of 8pm.
He said so far, only a few roads in three districts – Setiu, Dungun and Besut – were inaccessible after being flooded since early morning. – The Vibes, December 19, 2022
