Perak assembly observes moment of silence for landslide victims

IPOH – The Perak Legislative Assembly observed a minute’s silence for victims of the landslide tragedy at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya, Batang Kali, Selangor.

Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid offered condolences and expressed sympathies to their families on behalf of the state assembly before opening the sitting at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here.

“This is an unexpected tragedy that also affects the whole country. May the victims’ families remain strong throughout this ordeal.

“We also want to express our gratitude to all the security forces and personnel involved in the search-and-rescue mission,” he said.

As a mark of respect for the victims, Muslim assemblymen recited the Al-Fatihah prayer while non-Muslim assemblymen observed a minute’s silence.

 The landslide tragedy that struck at 2.42am last Friday, has so far left 25 people dead, eight victims still missing and 61 survivors out of a total of 94 people affected. – Bernama, December 21, 2022
