KUALA LUMPUR – The Perak speaker today issued a rebuke over assemblymen who did not put on their ties during the sittings, reported Bernama.
However, Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid did not name and shame, but reminded the house that the assembly decided last year that all assemblymen and government officers in attendance should wear ties.
“I would like to inform you here, I remember last year that I had decided that those who wear suits must wear ties. So, in the remaining time, I would like to ask you to please abide by the rules of this session.
“If it’s another house like Dewan Rakyat, for example, may decide otherwise but in this house, the speaker has decided ties must be worn with suits,” he said after the question-and-answer session in Ipoh today.
The Perak assembly sitting started on Monday and ends tomorrow.
During a Dewan Rakyat sitting last December, speaker Datuk Johari Abdul stipulated that members of Parliament who wear suits are given the choice to wear a tie.
In March, the Melaka assembly meeting approved a motion to allow assemblymen to wear long-sleeved batik shirts on Thursdays and not wear ties when the house sits. – The Vibes, May 24, 2023
